President Donald Trump escalated partisan attacks during the ongoing government shutdown, posting inflammatory and racist content targeting Democratic leaders on his Truth Social account.
On Thursday, Trump shared a meme labeling Democrats “THE PARTY OF HATE, EVIL, AND SATAN,” featuring images of Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and other prominent lawmakers. The image also declared, “The Democratic Party is Dead!” and accused Democrats of promoting “hate Trump” rhetoric.
The posts come as Congress remains deadlocked over a continuing resolution to reopen the government, with Democrats pushing to restore funding for low-income health care programs and Affordable Care Act tax credits.
Trump also shared an AI-generated video depicting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and fake mustache — a racist jab referencing false claims that Democrats want to fund health care for undocumented immigrants. The posts mark a sharp escalation as Trump continues to blame Democrats for the shutdown while accusing them of “terrorism” and “radicalism.”
Recent studies cited by researchers at The Conversation show right-wing extremists are responsible for most politically motivated violence in the U.S., accounting for up to 80% of domestic terrorism deaths since 2001.
