A New York judge sentenced President-elect Donald Trump to an “unconditional discharge” after his conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records tied to hush money payments during the 2016 election. While the conviction makes Trump a felon under New York law, he will face no further penalties.

The charges stemmed from payments made by Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to Stormy Daniels, which Trump denied orchestrating. This is one of four criminal cases Trump faced in 2024 and the only one to go to trial.
