Former President Trump revealed to reporters on Saturday that he has chosen his running mate for the November election but has not disclosed the name to anyone. Speaking to NBC News before a rally in Philadelphia, Trump confirmed, “In my mind, yeah,” when asked if he had decided. However, he added, “No, nobody knows,” when asked if his pick was aware of their selection.

The vetting process has intensified recently, with several candidates receiving materials from Trump’s campaign. He hinted at announcing his choice at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month.

Sources familiar with the process indicate the leading candidates are North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Other contenders include Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson.

Despite the scrutiny, Trump has expressed that the vice-presidential pick might not significantly impact the election outcome, stating earlier this year, “It’s never really had that much of an effect on an election.”
