President-elect Donald Trump announced that Pete Hegseth, an Army combat veteran and Fox News “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host, will serve as Secretary of Defense. Trump praised Hegseth as “tough, smart, and a true believer in America First,” saying he will help restore the military’s strength and commitment to U.S. defense.
Hegseth, who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two Bronze Stars, is known for his advocacy with groups like Vets For Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America. A Princeton and Harvard graduate, Hegseth recently authored The War on Warriors, which became a New York Times bestseller.
Trump highlighted Hegseth’s commitment to a “Peace through Strength” approach, calling him a “courageous and patriotic champion” for American troops.
