After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the United Nations, President Donald Trump said Tuesday he believes Ukraine could reclaim all of its territory — and potentially more.
“I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, citing Russia’s “BIG Economic trouble” as an opening for Kyiv to act.
Trump campaigned on ending the war but acknowledged in his General Assembly speech that negotiations have proven difficult. He said the U.S. is prepared to impose a “very strong round of powerful tariffs” on Russia to pressure President Vladimir Putin to negotiate.
Tensions between Trump and Putin have grown since an August summit in Alaska failed to produce progress toward talks with Zelenskyy. NATO also warned Moscow over drone incursions in Poland, with Trump backing the alliance’s right to shoot down Russian aircraft entering its airspace.
