Former President Trump announced on Truth Social Saturday that he will continue holding outdoor rallies despite the recent assassination attempt against him. Trump stated that the Secret Service will enhance security measures at these events. “I WILL CONTINUE TO DO OUTDOOR RALLIES, AND SECRET SERVICE HAS AGREED TO SUBSTANTIALLY STEP UP THEIR OPERATION,” he posted, emphasizing the importance of free speech and assembly.
Trump provided no specifics on the new security measures. The Secret Service, criticized for its handling of the recent rally where a shooter killed a rally attendee and injured two others, saw Director Kimberly Cheatle resign on Tuesday. The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed after attacking Trump.
Trump also announced a return to Butler, PA, where the shooting occurred, for another rally in honor of fallen firefighter Corey Comperatore. Despite Secret Service recommendations to stop outdoor rallies, Trump remains undeterred. At a recent Turning Point Action event, he mentioned removing “the last bandage off of my ear,” signaling his recovery from the incident.
