Former President Trump stated he would be “OK” with either house arrest or jail time following his conviction on 34 felony counts in New York. During a Fox News “Fox and Friends” interview, Trump said, “I’m OK with it,” but added, “I’m not sure the public would stand for it. I think it’d be tough for the public to take. At a certain point, there’s a breaking point.”
Trump was convicted last week on charges of falsifying business records related to reimbursements made to his former attorney Michael Cohen for a hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels. His sentencing is set for July 11, just before the Republican National Convention.
As a first-time offender, Trump is unlikely to face jail time, potentially receiving a lesser punishment such as a fine. Trump told “Fox and Friends” he instructed his lawyers not to “beg for anything.”
Discussing the impact on his family, Trump noted, “I think in many ways, it’s tougher on them than it is on me. They’re good people, all of them.” He added that his wife, Melania Trump, is “fine” but finds the situation “very hard.”
