President Donald Trump said Thursday that some migrants deported from the United States could return legally to work, particularly in agriculture. Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, Trump said migrants who “go out in a nice way” could be considered for legal reentry.
“If they go back to their country, we’re going to work with them right from the beginning on trying to get them back in legally,” Trump said, adding that after 60 days, they would otherwise be barred from returning.
While Trump has emphasized mass deportation and immigration enforcement in both campaigns and policy, his latest comments suggest flexibility for migrant labor in key industries. He referenced the importance of undocumented labor for farms and hospitality businesses.
Trump said migrants with “strong recommendations” from employers could remain temporarily, then exit and reenter through a legal process. “We have to take care of our farmers,” he said, “and hotels and various places where they need the people.”
