President-elect Donald Trump requested the Supreme Court delay implementing a potential TikTok ban until his administration can pursue a political resolution. The case, centered on national security concerns, pits TikTok against the Biden administration, which supports a law mandating TikTok divest from its Chinese parent company ByteDance by January 2025 or face a ban.

Trump’s amicus brief, which takes no position on the case’s merits, seeks to extend the divestment deadline, emphasizing his intent to resolve the issue politically once in office. This marks another instance of Trump engaging in major national issues before inauguration.

Previously, Trump attempted to ban TikTok during his presidency but reversed his stance while campaigning in 2024, leveraging the app to connect with young male voters. Despite meeting TikTok CEO Shou Chew this month, Trump reiterated concerns about potential national security risks.

The Biden administration maintains TikTok’s connections to China pose a security threat, though TikTok argues there’s no evidence China has misused its access. Oral arguments are set for January 10, following a federal court’s ruling upholding the statute.
