The Trump administration is facing sharp criticism for refusing to recognize Pride Month while ramping up actions LGBTQ advocates view as hostile — even as Washington, D.C. hosts the global WorldPride celebration.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Tuesday there are “no plans” for a Pride proclamation this year. Instead, the Education Department designated June as “Title IX Month,” citing efforts to bar transgender students from participating in girls’ sports and using women’s facilities.

“This is going to come as maybe tough news for the Trump administration to stomach, but June is Pride Month,” said Brandon Wolf of the Human Rights Campaign.

The administration’s posture has been reinforced by symbolic rebukes, such as a resolution introduced by Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) declaring June “Family Month.” Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to rename a ship honoring slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk and directed transgender service members to self-identify for voluntary separation by Friday.

Hegseth has ended all recognition of cultural heritage months at the Pentagon, including Pride, Black History, and Women’s History Month, calling them divisive.

“There is absolutely no question that the military has been a force for civil rights,” said former Pentagon official Alex Wagner, warning these moves undermine service members’ dignity and history.
