WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump said Iran is seeking negotiations to end the current conflict but insisted he is not prepared to accept a deal following weeks of U.S. and Israeli military operations targeting Iranian infrastructure.
Posting on Truth Social and speaking to reporters Friday at Joint Base Andrews, Trump declared that Iran had been “totally defeated” after joint strikes against military targets. The president said the attacks included a major bombing raid on Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil export hub, which he described as destroying major military facilities.
“The Fake News Media hates to report how well the United States Military has done against Iran, which is totally defeated and wants a deal — but not a deal that I would accept,” Trump wrote.
The conflict has entered its third week following the initial U.S. strikes on Feb. 28. Iranian officials have responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and regional allies, while Tehran warned that attacks on oil infrastructure could trigger retaliation against U.S.-linked facilities in the region.
Iran’s leadership has also closed the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil transit route, which has contributed to rising energy prices and concerns about broader economic disruption.
Trump has offered varying timelines for the military campaign. Speaking to reporters and later to Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, he said the conflict would end when U.S. objectives are achieved.
“When it’s over — and I don’t think it’s going to be long — when it’s over, this is going to bounce back so fast,” Trump said.
