President-elect Donald Trump dismissed claims by Democrats referring to Elon Musk as “President Musk,” citing Musk’s ineligibility for the presidency due to his birthplace. Speaking at Turning Point’s “America Fest” in Arizona, Trump affirmed, “No, he’s not gonna be president… He wasn’t born in this country.”
The “President Musk” label emerged after Musk criticized a stopgap spending measure, which Trump also opposed. Musk had tweeted that lawmakers approving the measure should be ousted, aligning with Trump’s stance against House Speaker Mike Johnson’s negotiated deal.
Trump acknowledged Musk’s contributions during his campaign, highlighting Musk’s efforts in Pennsylvania, which he said helped secure a decisive victory.
Trump recently announced that Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy would co-lead the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) panel. DOGE aims to cut regulations, reduce wasteful spending, and reform federal agencies. Trump described it as potentially “the Manhattan Project of our time,” emphasizing its long-held Republican aspirations.
Tesla, Musk’s company, has not commented on the remarks.
