New security measures were in place at former President Donald Trump’s first outdoor rally since surviving an assassination attempt. Speaking in Asheboro, North Carolina, Trump addressed supporters from behind bulletproof glass, while snipers were stationed on nearby rooftops and storage containers were strategically placed to block sight lines.
During the rally, a brief moment of concern occurred when Secret Service agents surrounded Trump as he stepped off the stage to check on an attendee who appeared distressed. After ensuring the person was okay, Trump returned to the platform.
Although the event was focused on national security, Trump also criticized former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, who had spoken at the Democratic National Convention. Trump revisited familiar themes, including his stance on NATO, asserting that the U.S. would not protect member nations from a Russian attack if they failed to pay their share. He also emphasized his business acumen as a tool to prevent wars, warning that any country threatening conflict would face significant tariffs and lose access to U.S. markets.
