In the days following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Trump said Sunday that his administration will investigate left-leaning groups, though he did not specify which organizations. Speaking to reporters, Trump argued that “the problem is on the left,” citing protests, flag burnings, and rhetoric critical of the United States.
Pressed on which groups may face inquiries, he responded, “We’ll see. We’ll be announcing.” He later added that some groups he associates with the left are “already under investigation,” without elaborating further.
Trump also expressed condolences for Kirk, who was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University last week. “A very sad weekend. We lost a great person,” he said, noting that he intends to attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona and will travel there aboard Air Force One with aides and reporters.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent Trump ally during the 2024 campaign, was remembered by the president as a critical voice in conservative politics. During remarks last week, Trump blamed “radical left lunatics” for the climate surrounding the attack. Authorities arrested Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting on Thursday.
