President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to impose new tariffs as part of his strategy to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking. On Truth Social, Trump pledged to enact a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada through an executive order on January 20. The tariffs would remain until the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigration into the U.S. stops.
Trump also proposed a 10% additional tariff on all imports from China, citing concerns over drug issues, including fentanyl.
The feasibility of these measures remains unclear, as observers question whether they are serious plans or negotiation tactics ahead of his inauguration.
