President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying discussions are underway. “He wants to meet. And we’re setting it up,” Trump told Fox News at Mar-a-Lago during a meeting with Republican governors.

Trump emphasized the need to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s 2022 invasion. “That’s a bloody mess,” he said, reiterating his pledge to negotiate peace between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

While Trump noted ongoing communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders, he has yet to speak directly with Putin. Trump’s relationship with Putin has drawn criticism from Democrats, who accuse him of being overly accommodating to the Russian leader.

The president-elect has promised swift diplomatic action to resolve the conflict, drawing both anticipation and scrutiny as he prepares to take office.
