Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday hesitated to commit to a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump claimed victory in their initial debate and suggested Harris’s campaign’s swift call for another round indicated their poor performance.
On Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, Trump questioned the need for a second debate, saying, “If you won the debate, I sort of think maybe I shouldn’t do it. Why should I do another debate?” He likened the situation to a prizefighter seeking a rematch after losing and mentioned he might consider another debate “if it was on a fair network.”
The first debate, hosted by ABC News, saw Harris frequently trying to provoke Trump, who diverged into discussions about crowd sizes and President Biden. Following the debate, Harris’s campaign quickly pushed for a second debate, with campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon stating, “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”
