President-elect Donald Trump has named key nominees for federal health agencies, signaling a shift in health policy. Former Rep. Dave Weldon (R-Fla.) is nominated to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Marty Makary for FDA Commissioner, and Dr. Janette Nesheiwat for Surgeon General.
Trump criticized current health agencies, stating Americans have “lost trust in the CDC and Federal Health Authorities,” accusing them of “censorship, data manipulation, and misinformation.” He said Weldon would restore the CDC’s credibility and tackle chronic diseases to “Make America Healthy Again.”
Dr. Makary, a public health advocate, was tapped to “refocus” the FDA after Trump alleged it has “lost sight of its primary goal as a regulator.” Nesheiwat, a frontline doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic, was praised for her leadership during major healthcare crises.
Trump’s broader health team, including figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mehmet Oz, reflects what analysts call an unpredictable agenda for his second administration.
