Former President Donald Trump, in a recent appearance on the “Six Feet Under” podcast hosted by ex-wrestler Mark Calaway, compared a photograph of himself surviving a July assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, to the famed World War II image of U.S. troops raising the flag on Iwo Jima. The photo of Trump, showing him raising a defiant fist with blood dripping from his ear, has been widely shared by his supporters. Trump expressed amazement at surviving the shooting, calling the image “iconic.”
In the interview, Trump reflected on the comparison, saying, “Iwo Jima is right there. They took a lot of bullets putting up the flag.” Calaway, known for his wrestling persona “The Undertaker,” agreed with Trump’s statement. Trump noted that he frequently receives artistic depictions of the moment and mentioned that, while some are impressive, others fall short. He also joked about his Georgia mugshot receiving a similar, though lesser, artistic response.
