Donald Trump Jr. arrived in Greenland on Tuesday aboard Trump Force One, signaling his father’s continued interest in acquiring the Arctic island. Meanwhile, Denmark reaffirmed its commitment to Greenland as part of its realm through a symbolic update to the royal coat of arms. King Frederik’s redesign emphasized Greenland’s significance, assigning it its own quadrant featuring a polar bear.

Greenland, a self-governing Danish territory since 1979, rejected former President Trump’s 2019 proposal to purchase the island. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated Greenland’s independence, while Greenlandic leader Múte Egede declared the island “not for sale.”

Trump Jr.’s brief visit followed escalating U.S. interest, with President-elect Trump calling Greenland’s security critical. Denmark recently pledged $1.5 billion to bolster defense there. Experts suggest the trip might stoke Greenland’s push for independence, using U.S. attention to amplify calls for self-determination.
