Former President Donald Trump escalated his criticisms of Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration’s immigration policies by posting a dark, threatening image on X (formerly Twitter). The image, which has garnered nearly 5 million views, shows a shadowy figure with a knife approaching a woman, with the caption “No One Is Safe With Kamala’s Open Border.” This is part of Trump’s ongoing campaign rhetoric, where he accuses Harris of weakening U.S. border security.
Trump has frequently labeled Harris as the “border czar,” although she was tasked by President Biden to address the root causes of migration from Central America, not directly oversee border security. His campaign ads and social media posts accuse Harris of intentionally undermining border enforcement, halting the construction of Trump’s border wall, and supporting policies that he claims lead to increased illegal immigration.
Harris and the Biden administration have defended their approach, emphasizing the need for long-term solutions to address migration and pointing to increased funding for border security. Harris has argued that Trump’s focus on the border is more about political gain than genuine concern.
Despite these defenses, Republicans, including Trump and Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales, continue to criticize the administration for what they view as inadequate border security measures. The U.S.-Mexico border saw over 2 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2023, setting a record and fueling the ongoing political debate over immigration policy.
