The fight over presidential power and judicial oversight escalated this week as a federal judge in Washington, D.C., blocked a new Trump administration immigration policy—despite the Supreme Court‘s recent ruling limiting nationwide injunctions.

The policy bars migrants crossing the southern border from seeking asylum. The judge, citing a pending class-action lawsuit, ruled the executive order violates federal asylum laws and paused implementation for two weeks.

Attorney General Pam Bondi celebrated last week’s high court ruling, which curtails judges’ authority to block presidential policies nationwide, calling prior injunctions “abuses” from liberal districts. “35 of the 40 opinions with nationwide injunctions came from five liberal districts,” Bondi said.

Critics argue the Trump administration is pushing constitutional boundaries. “If you don’t like the injunctions, don’t do illegal stuff,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

The administration has appealed the latest ruling, arguing it effectively circumvents the Court’s decision.
