President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen below 50%, with a majority of Americans saying he has not done enough to lower everyday costs. A CNN poll conducted from Feb. 13-17 found that 62% of respondents believe Trump has “not gone far enough” in addressing inflation, while only 27% say he has taken the right approach.
Discontent spans party lines, with 73% of Democrats, 65% of independents, and even 47% of Republicans saying Trump has failed to act aggressively enough to bring down prices. The president has attempted to distance himself from rising inflation, stating, “I had nothing to do with that,” and blaming former President Joe Biden.
Trump’s overall job approval rating stands at 47% in the CNN poll, while a separate Gallup poll places it at 45%—the lowest for any elected president at this stage since 1953. While Trump remains popular among Republicans (93% approval), he struggles with independents (37%) and faces near-universal disapproval from Democrats.
