Former President Trump signed an executive order granting federal agencies greater authority over California’s water management and wildfire recovery efforts, citing delays by state officials. The order allows agencies, including FEMA, to override state laws and federal regulations to expedite relief efforts for Los Angeles wildfire survivors.
The order directs FEMA and other agencies to fast-track housing aid, debris removal, and road repairs while barring federal disaster funds from assisting undocumented immigrants. Agencies were also tasked with reviewing state and federal laws, including the Endangered Species Act, that could hinder water project expansions or wildfire recovery.
