Donald Trump has pardoned former U.S. Representative Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress after pleading guilty to tax fraud in 2014. The pardon was confirmed Wednesday by a White House official ahead of a formal announcement.
Grimm, a former Marine and FBI agent, served eight months in prison after admitting to underreporting wages and revenue from a Manhattan restaurant he owned. He resigned in early 2015 and later attempted a political comeback but lost the 2018 GOP primary for his former seat.
While in office, Grimm gained notoriety for threatening a reporter who asked about an FBI probe into his campaign finances. “I’ll break you in half. Like a boy,” he said during the exchange, later apologizing after widespread condemnation.
Following his political career, Grimm joined conservative outlet Newsmax. In 2023, he was paralyzed in a horse-riding accident but has shared progress updates, including limited mobility gains.
Grimm has not yet publicly commented on the pardon.
