Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed that he won Minnesota in the 2020 election, despite the state being carried by Democratic presidential candidates for over 40 years. President Joe Biden won Minnesota in 2020 with 52.4% of the votes, compared to Trump’s 45.3%. The margin between the two candidates was more than 233,000 votes.

Trump made similar false claims about Wisconsin, stating he won the state “by a lot.” However, Trump lost Wisconsin in 2020 by more than 20,000 votes. He did win the state in 2016, becoming the first Republican to do so since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

These false claims are part of a series of election denialism and conspiracy comments Trump has made since his 2020 presidential loss. Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer criticized Trump as “unhinged about his 2020 loss,” and asserted that Biden would beat him again in the upcoming election.

Despite these false claims, polling suggests that Biden and Trump continue to be locked in a tight race. An NBC News poll conducted in April showed 44% of registered voters preferring Biden and 46% preferring Trump in a head-to-head matchup.
