Donald Trump is preparing for the U.S. to take a leading role in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza as Israel considers a full-scale military occupation, according to U.S. and Israeli officials. Trump met Monday with special envoy Steve Witkoff, who had just returned from visits to Israel and Gaza, to discuss the unfolding crisis.

A U.S. official said the administration will “take over” aid coordination, citing Israel’s insufficient handling. Gulf nations like Qatar, along with Jordan and Egypt, are expected to contribute. “The starvation problem in Gaza is getting worse,” said one official, adding that Trump has become “fixated” on preventing civilian suffering, particularly among women and children.

Despite personal reluctance, Trump views U.S. leadership in Gaza as necessary. He has instructed aides to ensure global participation, not just U.S. funding. Israel reportedly supports the plan, hoping enhanced aid will reduce international pressure.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for a full occupation of Gaza — a controversial move that has drawn warnings from Israeli military leaders concerned about endangering hostages and assuming long-term control over the territory.
