WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald Trump sharply condemned six Democratic lawmakers on Thursday, calling them “traitors” and suggesting they should face the death penalty after they released a video telling U.S. service members they must refuse unlawful orders. The video, aimed directly at active-duty personnel, states: “Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders.”

Trump responded on Truth Social, writing that their comments amount to “SEDICIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” and reposted messages from supporters calling for the lawmakers to be imprisoned. The video was released as the administration faces scrutiny over deadly military strikes in the Caribbean that officials say targeted drug-ferrying vessels — claims critics argue lack evidence.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, one of the lawmakers involved, defended the video, saying federal officials are trying to intimidate critics and avoid scrutiny over troop deployments and the use of federal law enforcement. She called for public hearings with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News the Justice Department may review whether the lawmakers encouraged service members to defy lawful commands. White House adviser Stephen Miller labeled their statements “insurrection.”

Legal experts note that any criminal case would be difficult, as U.S. military law clearly states service members must reject illegal orders. The lawmakers involved — including Sens. Slotkin and Mark Kelly, and Reps. Jason Crow, Chrissy Houlahan, Chris Deluzio, and Maggie Goodlander all have military or intelligence backgrounds.
