A statue depicting President Donald Trump and financier Jeffrey Epstein was reinstalled on the National Mall October 2 after a week-long dispute over permits and repairs, organizers said.

The 12-foot-tall “Trump-Epstein friendship” statue had been removed September 25 after the National Park Service revoked its permit, citing incorrect size measurements. Members of the art collective Secret Handshake, which created the statue, retrieved the piece and repaired damage with specialized glue before seeking a new permit.

The installation features plaques displaying an imagined conversation between Trump and Epstein. Despite repairs, visible cracks remain on the figures and placards, a reminder of the statue’s removal and reassembly.

Its return underscores ongoing tensions between free speech advocates and federal regulators over politically charged art displayed on federal land. The Park Service has said its objections were procedural, while organizers accused officials of attempting to suppress dissent.
