President Donald Trump‘s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, condemned Russia’s deadly missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy during a Palm Sunday gathering.
“Today’s Palm Sunday attack by Russian forces on civilian targets in Sumy crosses any line of decency,” Kellogg posted on X. “There are scores of civilians dead and wounded…this is wrong. It is why President Trump is working hard to end this war.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that at least 31 people were killed, including two children, and more than 84 others were injured. Zelensky accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of ignoring a recent U.S. ceasefire proposal.
The Trump administration has promoted ceasefire efforts since returning to office. A 30-day truce proposal was recently rejected by Putin, though he indicated openness to limited humanitarian agreements.
World leaders, including U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, also condemned the Sumy attack and urged Russia to accept an immediate ceasefire.
