The Trump administration on Monday filed a formal misconduct complaint against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, accusing him of undermining judicial integrity through private remarks about possible executive branch defiance of court orders.

The complaint, submitted by Attorney General Pam Bondi and her chief of staff Chad Mizelle, alleges Boasberg improperly suggested at a March Judicial Conference that Trump officials might ignore federal rulings and cause a “constitutional crisis.” Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was in attendance.

Shortly after, Boasberg blocked the deportation of hundreds of Venezuelans. The administration carried out the deportations anyway, with Boasberg hinting it defied his order. The Supreme Court later vacated that ruling on jurisdictional grounds.

The Trump administration has ramped up criticism of the judiciary, challenging rulings and filing similar complaints, including one against Judge Ana Reyes. It also sued the entire federal bench in Maryland over deportation hold rules and clashed with New Jersey judges over U.S. attorney appointments.

The latest filing asks the D.C. Circuit to remove Boasberg from the deportation case and calls for potential impeachment proceedings.
