President Trump sharply criticized Elon Musk’s formation of the “America Party,” calling it “ridiculous” and a path to “disruption and chaos.” The remarks come after Musk, once a senior Trump adviser, launched the party in protest of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” which was signed into law on July 4.
At a press gaggle and later on Truth Social, Trump defended the two-party system and claimed Musk’s real issue was the bill’s elimination of electric vehicle subsidies. “Third parties have never worked,” he said. “They only create chaos.”
Musk’s party announcement followed a poll on X, where nearly 65% supported a new political party. He said the “America Party” would target a small number of congressional races to become swing votes on major legislation.
Trump warned that Musk’s third-party effort could divide Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms and insisted the spending bill was a “triumph,” despite growing GOP concerns over the rising deficit.
