President Donald Trump rejected calls to fire members of his Cabinet following reports that senior officials discussed classified military operations in a Signal group chat that included a journalist.
In an interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump labeled The Atlantic’s reporting on the Signal chat “fake news” and a “witch hunt,” saying he had no plans to dismiss Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth or national security adviser Mike Waltz.
“I think it’s just a witch hunt… and it’s the only thing the press wants to talk about,” Trump said. “It’s been the greatest 100-day presidency in the history of our country.”
The Atlantic reported that its editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was mistakenly added to a group chat where officials, including Vice President JD Vance, discussed strike plans on Yemen’s Houthis. The report sparked criticism and legal action by watchdog group American Oversight, which cited potential violations of the Federal Records Act due to the use of Signal’s auto-delete feature.
Asked about Signal, Trump replied, “I have no idea what Signal is. I don’t care what Signal is.”
