President Donald Trump dismissed reports of a heated dispute between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Elon Musk, insisting Saturday that the two have a “great relationship.”

The New York Times reported that Musk and Rubio clashed during a Thursday Cabinet meeting over workforce cuts, with Musk allegedly telling Rubio he’s “only good on TV” but “not for much else.” The dispute was reportedly fueled by Musk’s frustration over the lack of terminations at the State Department, particularly in foreign aid programs.

During the meeting, Rubio defended his department’s staffing decisions, pointing out that 1,500 employees had already retired early and questioning whether they should be rehired only to be fired again. Trump intervened, praising Rubio for doing a “great job” handling diplomacy and peace talks.

On Truth Social, Trump denied any conflict, posting, “ELON AND MARCO HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP. ANY STATEMENT OTHER THAN THAT IS FAKE NEWS!!!”

The White House and State Department also downplayed reports of a rift, emphasizing that Rubio and Musk are working together to make government more efficient.
