Washington, DC — President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a series of immigration demands to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Democratic leaders nationwide following the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis.

In a Truth Social post, Trump called on Walz, Frey, all Democratic governors and mayors, and Congress to “formally cooperate” with federal immigration enforcement rather than resist it. The demands include turning over undocumented individuals with criminal records or active warrants to federal authorities, requiring local police to assist federal agents, and passing legislation to eliminate sanctuary city policies nationwide.

The announcement followed the shooting death of Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, during what the Department of Homeland Security described as a targeted immigration operation. Minnesota officials, including Attorney General Keith Ellison, have said the state plans to challenge the federal operations in court, while Walz has urged the administration to withdraw federal agents from Minnesota.

Attorney General Pam Bondi added conditions in a letter sent to Walz late Saturday, stating federal agents would consider reducing their presence only if Minnesota repealed sanctuary policies, provided voter registration records, and shared Medicaid and food assistance data with the Department of Justice. Bondi blamed state and local leaders for unrest and defended the continued federal presence.

The administration has indicated it will expand federal law enforcement operations in Minneapolis, even as legal challenges and protests continue.
