President Donald Trump announced that Feb. 9, 2025, will be recognized as Gulf of America Day after flying over the region en route to the Super Bowl. The move follows his executive order, Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness, which directed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
In a White House statement, Trump described the Gulf as “an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation” and called the renaming a historic event. During the proclamation signing, Trump stated the day was “even bigger than the Super Bowl.”
