President Donald Trump announced Monday that pardons issued by former President Joe Biden in his final days in office are “void” and “vacant”, citing Biden’s use of Autopen to sign the documents.
Trump claimed Biden “did not sign” the pardons himself and “did not know anything about them”, posting on Truth Social:
“The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave … are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because they were done by Autopen.”
Biden’s pardons included family members such as James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens, and Francis W. Biden, as well as Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and members of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, including Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Trump accused the Jan. 6 Committee of destroying evidence and suggested those responsible for processing Biden’s pardons “may have committed a crime”. The administration has not yet clarified how it intends to legally challenge the pardons.
