President Donald Trump suggested in a Thursday interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shares some responsibility for the ongoing war with Russia, which began in 2022. Trump claimed Zelensky “shouldn’t have allowed this to happen” and should have made a deal with Russia before the invasion.

“Zelensky decided, ‘I want to fight,’” Trump said, adding, “I could have made that deal so easily.” He also highlighted the disparity in military resources, noting Russia’s 30,000 tanks compared to Ukraine’s limited equipment at the start of the conflict.

Trump has pledged to broker a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia on the first day of his presidency if reelected. He has also threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin with economic sanctions if the war continues, while urging for immediate peace talks. Zelensky’s team has reportedly reached out to Trump’s to arrange a meeting.
