Just two days before the commencement of his New York criminal trial, former President Donald Trump criticized his former attorney, Michael Cohen, who is expected to be a significant witness in the case. Trump’s criticism, posted on Truth Social, questioned why only “Trump people” get prosecuted. Cohen’s allegations that Trump directed him to make hush money payments to adult film actor Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign form the crux of the case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Cohen, expressing his feelings ahead of the trial, admitted to being “stressed” and “nervous” due to Trump’s relentless attacks. It remains unclear whether Trump’s posts violate a gag order prohibiting him from making public statements about potential witnesses in the trial.
Trump faces 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records, allegedly to conceal damaging information from the public during the 2016 presidential election. In another post, Trump also criticized the district attorney’s office, accusing it of corruption and election interference.
