President Donald Trump asserted Friday that Israel will transfer control of Gaza to the U.S., expanding on his controversial plan that suggests relocating Palestinians permanently. His proposal challenges longstanding U.S. Middle East policy.

Trump told reporters Gaza “will be given to us by Israel” and claimed his plan has been “very well received.” He added, “We don’t want to see everybody move out and then move back in 10 years.” However, Arab leaders and some Republicans showed little support.

Trump previously suggested Palestinians should be resettled in Egypt and Jordan, though both nations rejected the idea. On Thursday, he stated Israel would transfer Gaza to the U.S. after 16 months of war against Hamas.

His remarks raised concerns about potential U.S. military involvement. White House officials have since downplayed his statements, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth saying intervention is “a very long way” off.
