In a Tuesday interview on WABC radio, former President Donald Trump accused Vice President Kamala Harris of disliking Jewish people, despite her marriage to a Jewish man, second gentleman Doug Emhoff. Trump suggested Harris looked uncomfortable during her recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating, “You can see the disdain… No. 1, she doesn’t like Israel. No. 2, she doesn’t like Jewish people.”
Trump has aimed to exploit divisions in the Democratic Party over the Israel-Hamas conflict, painting his opponents as antisemitic while ignoring his own controversial past, such as dining with a Holocaust denier. As Harris emerges as the likely Democratic presidential nominee, Trump has intensified his attacks on her.
James Singer, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, responded, “America is better than the fear, hate, and despicable insults of Donald Trump… Vice President Harris believes Americans want a president who unites our country instead of divides it.”
During the interview, Trump also criticized Jewish voters who support Democrats, repeating his assertion that they should “have their head examined” and labeling them “absolute fools.” Host Sid Rosenberg and Trump disparaged Emhoff, with Rosenberg calling him “a crappy Jew” and “a horrible Jew,” comments Trump agreed with.
Emhoff, the first Jewish spouse of a nationally elected U.S. leader, has been active in combating antisemitism and leading Jewish celebrations at the White House. His office declined to comment on Tuesday. Trump’s campaign has also targeted Emhoff’s daughter Ella for supporting the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, which Israel seeks to ban, alleging terrorist support—a claim European leaders have dismissed as unfounded.
