At a Tuesday evening reception with lawmakers, President Donald Trump claimed the controversy over the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files has improved his polling numbers by four to five points, calling the allegations a “made-up hoax.” “I have the best numbers I’ve ever had,” Trump said, according to Mediaite. “They want to do anything to get us off the subject of making America great again.”
However, recent polling data contradicts his assertion. Gallup shows Trump’s second-term approval rating has gradually declined, slipping from 47% in January to 40% in July—his lowest this term. CNN’s Poll of Polls, which averages surveys from Gallup, Reuters/Ipsos, AP-NORC, and CNN, also reflects a downward trend, with a drop from 42% to 41% over the past week.
While some individual polls showed small fluctuations, most were within margins of error and none demonstrated the significant increase Trump claimed. Echelon Insights’ latest poll pegged his approval at 45%, unchanged from June.
Trump’s remarks come amid growing criticism over his administration’s handling of the Epstein case. Despite promising transparency, Trump has sought to distance himself from Epstein, even as photos and reports continue to highlight their long association.
