At a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump claimed that some polls indicate “like 93 percent” of people feel better off under his presidency compared to Joe Biden’s, questioning the need for an election.
“Are you better off with Kamala and Biden than you were under President Donald J Trump? I don’t think so. You know, they do polls on this stuff and I’m at like 93 percent,” Trump said.
Newsweek could not find any poll supporting Trump’s 93 percent claim, although some polls do show a preference for Trump over Biden. For example, a July poll by the University of Michigan found 49 percent felt financially worse off under Biden, while 18 percent felt better. A YouGov survey also found 44 percent felt worse financially compared to a year ago.
Trump’s comments about possibly eliminating elections echo previous remarks where he suggested that Christians might not need to vote again if he were re-elected. Trump has repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election, despite widespread dismissals of his claims.
Trump’s spokesperson did not clarify which poll he referenced but affirmed the stance against dishonest elections.
