The Trump campaign confirmed that some of its internal communications were hacked by foreign sources, following a report from Politico that received leaked documents from an anonymous account.
The campaign attributed the breach to “foreign sources hostile to the United States,” citing a recent Microsoft report indicating Iran’s efforts to target the 2024 election. Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung stated that Iranian hackers compromised the account of a “high-ranking official” in June 2024.
This breach follows an attempted assassination of Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, with the Biden administration claiming Iran issued threats against the former president. Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied the allegations.
Politico received the leaked documents, including a research dossier on Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance. The anonymous source warned against questioning the origin of the documents.
In a Truth Social post, Trump confirmed the Microsoft report and criticized the government’s response, stating, “Iran and others will stop at nothing, because our Government is Weak and Ineffective.”
