President-elect Donald Trump has called for unidentified drones spotted across the Northeast to be shot down, escalating public concerns. On Truth Social, Trump questioned government awareness of the drones, stating, “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!”
Sightings have been reported in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. While local lawmakers have raised alarms about potential foreign involvement, federal agencies dismissed the concerns. The Department of Homeland Security and FBI stated that most sightings involve lawfully operated manned aircraft, with “no known malicious activity.”
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) alleged the drones originated from an Iranian “mothership” off the East Coast, a claim the Pentagon denied, stating there is “no evidence” of foreign involvement.
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan criticized federal agencies for lacking transparency, describing the government’s response as negligent. Hogan reported personally witnessing drone activity near his Maryland home, documenting the event and expressing public frustration over unanswered questions.
