President Donald Trump called for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who ordered the administration to halt deportation flights carrying Venezuelan migrants suspected of gang affiliations.
“This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS IN OUR COUNTRY!”
Boasberg rebuked the administration during a Monday hearing, accusing officials of defying his ruling by proceeding with deportation flights. The administration argued that the planes were already airborne when the ruling took effect and that officials followed less specific written guidance.
The judge pressed the Justice Department on why it failed to comply with his order. Deputy Associate Attorney General Abhishek Kambli declined to give details, citing national security concerns.
Trump’s call for judicial impeachment is unlikely to succeed, as it would require House approval and a two-thirds Senate majority. However, it underscores his broader attacks on the judiciary, particularly against Obama-appointed judges.
