Donald Trump has accused Joe Biden and Kamala Harris of making it difficult for the Secret Service to protect him, following a failed assassination attempt last month. In an interview on Dr. Phil with Phil McGraw, Trump claimed—without evidence—that the Biden administration’s actions hindered his security.
On July 13, Trump was grazed by a bullet during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman killed one attendee and injured two others before being shot dead by a Secret Service officer. Trump criticized Biden and Harris for allegedly “weaponizing” government against him, suggesting their rhetoric may have inspired the attack.
The Secret Service later admitted to staffing issues and a lack of security before the incident. Trump’s security has since been increased, with agents reassigned from Biden’s campaign security.
Biden and Harris condemned the attack, and there is no evidence linking them directly to any security failures. The FBI has stated the gunman acted alone and found no ideological motives behind his actions.
Trump has previously made unfounded claims about Biden weaponizing the government and FBI overreach, including during a 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid.
