President-elect Donald Trump is actively interviewing candidates to replace FBI Director Christopher Wray, according to Vice President-elect JD Vance. In a now-deleted social media post, Vance defended skipping a Senate vote on a Biden judicial nominee, stating he was meeting with Trump to discuss multiple administration roles, including FBI Director.

Vance emphasized the importance of selecting an FBI leader who would “dismantle the deep state,” adding, “I tend to think it’s more important to get an FBI director than to lose a vote 49-46 rather than 49-45.”

The potential replacement of Wray, who was appointed by Trump in 2017, has been widely anticipated due to Trump’s ongoing criticism of his leadership. Trump recently called for Wray’s resignation, citing dissatisfaction with his perceived support for President Biden.

Contenders for the FBI director position reportedly include conservative ally Kash Patel and former FBI agent Mike Rogers, who recently lost a Michigan Senate bid. Neither Trump’s transition team nor the FBI has commented on the matter.
