President-elect Donald Trump has signaled he may not pursue a TikTok ban, citing his significant popularity on the platform. During his first term, Trump considered banning the app due to national security concerns but has since appeared to shift his stance. In a Truth Social post on Friday, he asked, “Why would I want to get rid of TikTok?” and shared an infographic highlighting his reach.
The data revealed Trump and affiliated accounts amassed 3.8 billion views on TikTok, far exceeding Vice President Kamala Harris’s 1.3 billion views. His campaign account, @teamtrump, reportedly achieved eight times more views per post on TikTok than on Instagram, while Trump’s personal posts garnered five times more views on TikTok than Instagram. The hashtag #trump has received 36 billion views.
By comparison, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé received 251 million and 131 million views, respectively.
Trump recently petitioned the Supreme Court to delay implementing a TikTok ban set for January 19, citing the need for input from the incoming administration. His nominee for solicitor general, John Sauer, argued that Trump’s leadership is essential to resolving security concerns while preserving the platform. The move has drawn some GOP criticism.
