President-elect Donald Trump has named Sebastian Gorka as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism. Gorka, a British-Hungarian American and “legal immigrant,” has over 30 years of national security experience. Trump praised Gorka as a staunch supporter of the “America First Agenda” and the MAGA movement.

Previously, Gorka served in the Trump administration as an advisor on counterterrorism and a member of a national security advisory board. He has held media roles at Salem Radio Network, Newsmax, and Fox News. Gorka is also known for his podcast “America First,” launched in 2018.

Gorka’s tenure in the first Trump administration ended when John Kelly became chief of staff. He has faced criticism, including from former national security advisor John Bolton, who called him a “con man” unfit for government service.

Trump also appointed Alex Wong as principal deputy national security advisor. Wong played a key role in Trump’s 2018 meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Gorka has drawn controversy for his comments on Islam and his abrasive media interactions, as well as scrutiny of his academic credentials.
